Magic and Macaroons A Magical Bakery Mystery Bailey Cates Books Reviews
I love this series. It is one of my favorites and I waited patiently for months and months for it to come out. Bailey Cates is a great writer. The plot was good and I love a lot of the characters. Dec and Cooke are probably my two favorites. The one thing I really disliked about this book was how predictable cookie's familiar was. Even though his reveal was slightly amusing and well done - it was too predictable. I knew she was going to get her familiar in the book and I knew exactly what it was and I wish Ms. Cates would have surprised me a little bit.
However, she is very good with plot and character development and the Savannah backdrop (not to mention the very charming bakery and carriage house) is delightful.
Overall great read and I highly recommend it.
I like all of Bailey Cates' books. I am a fan of Cozy Mysteries and like "knowing" the players in the story. That being said, this was not my favorite one. I think the villian was evident early, but there was a twist that I didn't see coming. I would like to see more interaction with Mother Eulora...I think she should be a regular or make appearances to help Katie discover more of what she can do magically.
Overall I would recommend. It is a nice, easy read and doesn't make you stress out.
I really like this author. This is another great book in her magical bakery series. I don't like to give away anything about the books I read. I just give my opinion and rather I think it is worth reading. This entire series is worth the read if you like cozy mysteries. If you don't care for this genre then skip this book. I however love cozy mysteries and read many of them. This is a series I enjoy.
have read all Bailey Cates books up to and including this one. each one offered a little something different, and were enjoyable to read. however, in this particular one when, during a séance, Katie's dog (Mungo) held hands/paws to complete a circle...I thought that was a bit far fetched. really? come on....
Katie Lightfoot and the other members of her spellbook club are always in the middle of some paranormal happening. Its nice to read how this untraditional family takes care of each other. The backdrop of Savannah is delivered in detail and makes you feel you are there and in their wonderful gardens and history. I want Katie's gazebo and backyard garden paradise. I love the combination of baking, witchcraft, friendship, and family. In this book Katie assists to find the killer of franklin taite who told her she was a lightwitch with no explanation. It leads her down the path of voodoo accompanied by Cookie. In the end the club gets a look at what dark magic can do when used for the wrong purpose.
This new book in the Magical Bakery Mystery series is just as good as all the others.
The Magical Bakery is a bakery run by hedgewitch Katie Lightfoot and her aunt an uncle. The sprinkle magic into the creations they bake to help people out.
When the niece of an old friend of Katie’s stumbles into the bakery, she whispers to Katie before she passes out to find the gris gris. Katie knows that voo doo is involved with the gris gris and she must embark on trips to the voo doo area of town. When the girl’s uncle Franklin Taite turns up murdered, even more questions are asked. You see, Katie had contacted him months before through a medium who can only contact the dead.
What happens in this book will have you looking over your shoulder and wondering if there really is voo doo and witch craft in the world.
I love this series. Bailey Cates writes in an easy to read and fun way. Her descriptive words make you feel as though you are right there. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
During a meeting of the spellbook club, Katie Lightfoot and her friends are interrupted by a woman frantically knocking on the Honeybee's window. When Katie goes to check it out, the woman collapses to the ground, but before she falls unconscious, she manages to say that she is seeking Katie Lightfoot for help and that her uncle sent her. Her last coherent words to Katie are to find the missing gris-gris and seek out Savannah's voodoo queen. This sets Katie on a quest unlike any other as she learns more about her mysterious visitor request. I enjoy this series and all the quirky characters that surround Katie, including her friends, family of Lucy and Ben, and hunky firefighter boyfriend, Declan. This story explores a type of magic that Katie has not yet encountered, but it also gives her an opportunity to spend more time with her friend Cookie, as they try to find the missing gris-gris, despite Cookie's misgivings about being involved with voodoo. I look forward to the next book in this series.
