Securing the Handyman Heart The I Do Club Katie Clark 9781520573502 Books

I had hoped this would be a lovely story, but I was quite disappointed. The blurb made it seem as if this was a new romance contrived by the lead and her friends. Wrong. The minute I read that they had been 'dating for three years off and yet only had spent time together maybe 10 dates? What in the world?! And didn't spend that much time actually together learning about each other outside of his repair work and her baking. Where exactly was the romance at? The building of a relationship? Neither one spoke to the other about their likes, wants, needs, or fears. He apparently has no friends outside of his grandmother, and she is apparently to much of a wimp to tell her parents that she's grown and to stop allegedly pressuring her to move to Florida. Her two friends were just as flaky. And seriously? No baker/pastry chef I know works 7 days a week. And no shop called The Cupcakery would ever sell anything beyond cupcakes and cakes. It's a specialty name for a bakery that apparently does not specialize and focus only on the thing it's named for. Donuts? Cookies? Pies? Wrong. And absolutely no baker could run a shop by themselves 7 days a week doing all the baking, front house service, maintenance, etc and not end up in the hospital for exhaustion and dehydration, especially in the Alabama heat.

As for the so-called advice Kayla was given by her friends? 'Break something'? 'Wait on him hand and foot'? Basically, to be someone other than herself in order to get him to want her? Ridiculous. Especially from the friend who made such a ridiculous choice in the story.

I've read several types of romance novels, including Christian based novels, and this story fell so flat on that part it was pathetic. The characters whined a lot in the guise of praying, never picked up a bible to read scripture on their issues, and didn't seem to trust God in the first place, though they were faithfully attending one of the churches in town. Too much plotting and not enough substance.

Securing the Handyman Heart The I Do Club Katie Clark 9781520573502 Books Reviews

I thoroughly enjoyed this story and these characters and I’m excited to see what story is next in this series! My 15-year-old daughter also read it and LOVED IT! Here's my review Both Kayla and George really tugged at my heart. Kayla was trying so hard to be a good friend, grow her bakery business, and show her parents that she didn't need to move to Florida to be with them. George was struggling to help his grandmother pay some bills that were left by his grandfather when he died. He thought working too hard was the right thing to do, and he didn't have time for selfish things like a love life. George was sweet, but I got annoyed with him sometimes. Still, he was very realistic and representative of how men think, and I felt for him. I was so happy with the ending and looking forward to the next one!

If you’re looking for a light, sweet romance story, this will fit the bill! I hope when I read the stories of the other two friends from this book I can also get a glimpse of how George and Kayla are doing, because they just seem so sweet.
Disclaimer I received a review copy of this book but was not required to write a review.
This is a new to me author, but the summary of the story got my attention and I was drawn in from the first page ) This story was an easy read and I was surprised how quickly I got to love its characters.

Kayla owns a cupcake bakery and she has a crush on George, the local handyman with a heart of gold and looks to match. They've been on a few dates already, but both keep very busy so they're not an official couple yet. However, the attraction between them is sweet and tangible!

My favorite character was George's grandmother, affectionately known as Granny. Wish everyone could have a grandma like that...independent, feisty, great sense of humor, and easy to love.

George carries the burden of having to provide financially for his grandmother and doesn't feel he would be good marriage material, even though Kayla is ready to find the right partner for marriage and George is the only one she has eyes for.

Got kind of annoyed at George for keeping to himself and stubbornly working so hard, but understood why he did it and loved how fair he was in charging his clients. He definitely won me over, only wished he realized how special he was to Kayla earlier in the story.

This is the first book in a series, next is Kayla's best friends who also want to get married and are determined to help each other out ) Really enjoyed this book and hope others will also!

With thanks to the author for the review copy provided, all thoughts and comments are my own.
I really liked how Katie put personasl touchhes in her story. This book reminded me of a Hallmark movie and I love those. This was well written and kept me wanting to read more. Very nice job Katie.
Sweet and cheesy, but rounded characters and unexpected plot twists.
A clean, small town story focusing on waiting on God's timing, having trust in the one you love, and letting go of fear.
It's clean and well-written. Kayla and George make a decent couple, but I wish the attraction between them felt stronger. Granny is a hoot. Terry and Louis Ann may be her best friends, but I don't feel that strong connection with them. Overall, the story is good, but I think it could be improved.
