(Originally posted on Audible.com) The author provided me with a complimentary copy of this audiobook with no expectation of a review. I absolutely love this series. I've never read one of Robert Thornhill's books but I've listened to all of them in audiobook format. After I listened to the first one, I knew I'd never be able to read one. Why? Because George Kuch made the experience so enjoyable and LOL funny! I knew that I'd not get the same level of enjoyment just by reading the books (although I'm certain they'd still be amazing reads). This book was no different. There are thrills and lots of laughs. I had to listen to it in one sitting because I just couldn't find a spot where the story slowed enough that I wanted to stop. Lady Justice and the Assassin Robert Thornhill Peg Thornhill 9781483994420 Books Reviews
I generally do not read cozy books but story line description read interesting so I gave it a try. Politics are ripped right out of today's headlines which are something I generally avoid. A 69 year old street cop as a protagonist was not believable for me (kept asking myself "How is it he is not long retired like my father?") A one-time sneeze into a box of powdered donuts gave me a chortle, but a criminal shaving dogs wasn't all that funny and was going to become a repeating theme by the looks of it. While I appreciate the author making this complimentary at time of purchase, I am going to have to set this one aside and move on to something a bit more gripping like "My Name is Hardly."
I expected this to be a riveting, edge of your seat, action adventure type of book and I didn't really get that. It doesn't have too much substance to it. I kept waiting for the story to really get going when suddenly I was 90% of the way through and at the epilogue and realized I didn't know the characters too well. I know it's part of a series (that I have not read) but still there should be some fleshing out of these characters. And really not too much happens. I could tell you the whole story in just a few sentences in this review and you wouldn't need to read the book. Good premise but character development and complexity of the plot needs more work.
Awesome! I was concerned at the beginning and almost didn't read this book! I actually started it three times and got interrupted before I got far enough to understand it might be worth reading. Don't let your political or cultural prejudices keep you from reading to the end.
Not my type of mystery. The premise of how far you would one go if you were about to lose everything was interesting and made me ask the same question of myself. However, that is about all I found interesting. I expected humor mixed in with mystery from the other reviews (ala Hiaasen, Dorsey, etc.) so I was seriously disappointed. I felt the attempts at humor to be unoriginal, juvenile and at times crude and pointless. Others may find Mr. Thonhill's joking seniors entertaining, every one has their own taste. But for me I will pass on future books.
Yet another thought provoking novel to read, enjoy and think!!! And pick up more of the Lady Justice series!!!!
I am only an amateur and cannot compete with the professionals who have already reviewed this book. The reviews are at the beginning of the book and there is no exaggeration in these reviews.
Robert Thornhill is a master in handling controversial subjects with such finesse that the reader is made to think for himself and bring out the basic goodness inside each of us.
The controversial issues taken up in this book are - gun control and emigration laws; when two lobbies against gun control and relaxation of emigration laws join hand to thwart the proposals by the administration, they aim at assassinating the President and Vice President of US almost simultaneously.
Walt and his friends bring down the evil people of distorted thinking and restore justice. The plot is thick but a simple person like Walt and his friends are up to the challenge.
Henry has lost his job, exhausted his savings, is losing his house and family, and is desperate. The Aryan Brotherhood hires him to assassinate the President. Officer Walt Williams is dealing with a street gang called the Vipers. Everyone is on a collision course. The writing is excellent. The mistakes are minimal. The story develops into a message of right and wrong. The tension builds. This is a great story well told. I enjoyed this book
Lady Justice and the Assassin (Lady Justice #13)
by Robert Thornhill
Walt Williams and crew are back fighting for fairness and justice for everyone from dogs to the working man all the way up to the president. I love the way Mr. Thornhill works in real life events into Walt's fictious world. He brings topics to the forefront that make the listener/reader look at more than one side of the issue, but you can count on humor to keep a smile on your face. I've had the privelege to both read the and listen to the Audible editions. I look forward to the next addition to this series.
The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed. George Kuch is fantastic, I couldn't think of anyone else that could do this series justice!
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
