I was so looking forward to this book, and I was not disappointed.
The Wishing Rock Theory of Life gets readers closer to characters that seemed to have their life "together" and/or seemed to be "all knowing, all wise" and showed us that there is just no such thing. Nobody is perfect, nobody has their life all together the way they want it. Nobody knows all the answers. Life can be, and often is, confusing, and throws us curves, and we don't always know what we want. These characters have dreams, disappointments, and heartbreak. The way they deal with these life experiences is what makes them grow as people. Just like real life.

I am not normally into books that could be based in reality, but I do love these characters and I felt once again like I was visiting old friends. I STILL want to live in Wishing Rock. If Millie has a job opening in her store, I would take the job in a heartbeat.

A fun fast read. I enjoyed finding out what happened in the lives of the characters after the first book and I am looking forward to the next
Both of Ms. Stucky's novels are fantastic! A fresh approach to writing that takes readers into the lives of the characters (which are all interesting and fun). I never wanted the books to end! The concepts of happiness, joy, and love are all addressed in ways that are thought-provoking and so much fun to read. I love the fact that the characters are so real, and the story is so believable. I recommend this book to anyone, but especially someone that you think might benefit from a new way of looking at happiness in life. Thank you Ms. Stucky!
Really enjoyed getting together again with the gang from Wishing Rock. I wish this series would have been around when I was younger and still trying to figure out what I wanted in a relationship and in life in general. So many wise words, and more than once I went back and reread a page or two because it struck such a chord with me. Look forward to book three now!
Growing up in a small town, albeit not in one building on an island, I can relate to the characters in The Wishing Rock Theory of Life. I enjoyed meeting them in Pam's first novel, and they bloomed even more to life in the second book. True to form, the author takes the reader on a journey from the trials of living in a small town, to the realization of how amazing it feels when people genuinely care and support each other through difficult times, to in-depth discussions about life, relationships, and love. Pam sneaks some yummy recipes into the pages, too. I find reading Pam Stucky's novels a treat, as well as a retreat. I'm looking forward to the next novel from Wishing Rock.
This second book in the Wishing Rock series was well worth the wait! I read this just as quickly, if not more so, than the first! Pam Stucky brought all the favorite, familiar characters back from our introduction to the world of Wishing Rock. At the same time, we got to see these characters grow and adapt to some pretty big changes and surprises along the way. Learning even more of the backstories of some of the beloved residents of the town was a joy and I can absolutely admit to some jaw-dropping revelations while traveling through the pages of the story! It was wonderfully written, a lovely escape from "real life", and provided opportunities aplenty for self-reflection. Underlying it all was a message we all need reminders of...take the time to cherish what you have. I can't wait to see what happens next for the residents of Wishing Rock!
I love Wishing Rock! The Wishing Rock Theory of Life develops through a series of written communications by and among the town's inhabitants who all live and work in the same large building. Author Pam Stucky skillfully drew me into a warm circle of friends through their texts, emails, letters, and newsletters. She has created a cast of individuals having distinct quirks, senses of humor, and worldviews. Their correspondence ranges from thoughtful discussions of relationships lost or changed, to a newsy travelogue about Switzerland or Scotland, to speculation about a newly-arrived mystery woman or the whereabouts of a hidden treasure, to a hilarious description of a mud-bath, to the mundane details of everyday life. While reading the characters' intimate correspondence initially felt voyeuristic, very quickly I found myself mentally composing answers to emails as if I were actually a recipient. It came as a shock every time I realized I couldn't join in any of the conversations. (I'm not a cook, but I was particularly frustrated that I couldn't text the chef who neglected to include how much flax seed to put in the granola.) I dearly hope there will be a third book because I miss my friends already.
